Thanks for this Nate. I am very interested to know more about the internal discussions about design in the W - community. 

I hoped that the oral citations project (e.g. People are Knowledge video) would result in a new discussion about the relation between design and knowledge in Wikipedia, but nothing seems to happen. I hope I am wrong! Maybe you know more?
