Last Monday I finally made it to the 5 year running Monday club Circo
Loco, at DC10, more or less a shed turned to club under the flight path
of Ibiza's run way in order not to disturb anyone with the lethally
loud, yet beautiful sound system. It was pure mad dance energy akin to
acid house of the late 80s - with added Latino and gay loco mayhem.

Minimalist and abstract, the music was nevertheless slow enough to allow
for funky basslines. Think Ame's 'Rey', for example. The Italian party
crews rule, in August. Instead of waiting with hands in the air for the
return of the bass drum, as with trance parties, there is one track,
'Doppelwhipper' by Gabriel Ananda, where people sit down and on return
of the bass drum jump up with the energy of that last minute crucial
World Cup goal - ahhh the simple pleasures of life :)

Here a video link to a clip by an English partygoer of the sit/jump
action on the outside 'terrace' at DC10:

Here a link to a sample of what the music was supposed to sound like on
the video (click on 'Doppelwhipper')

And here some pictures by Englishman Rik Moran of the event:

All these links were from other days than the one I attended, but
approximate my experience, except that Puff Daddy was also in the DJ box
when I was there, drawing a little too much attention to himself. The
main drawback was the 'security', which was rude and acted more like
contemptuous cattle herders; they secured the venue, but less so the
people. Meanwhile, police made random drugs checks at the entrance.
Still, the electronica party vibe inside was special.

Hillegonda.
