Hi Meghan
Can you expand upon what you mean by community and genre?
And welcome to the list...
Graham
Hi, Graham!
Right now, I am building a very basic library on EDM, trying to find
out what's out there and what's available.
I'm interested in how the EDM community is fairly consistent in its
reproduction around the world. I have some fieldwork from andy
bennett's "Popular Music and Youth Culture" (like I said, I'm building
a basic library) that correlates aspects of the Chicago scene to the
scene in Newcastle, England. I'm interested in what other people think
the EDM community is. Really basic information on community and EDM,
right now.
As far as genre goes, I'm interested in the endless genres out there
and am looking for some information on a breakdown of genres. (I know
it when I hear it, but how to explain it? I'm a musician, so it's not
the technical aspect as far as beats or rhythms go, just some insight
into what makes progressive house progressive or what specifically
defines darkstep...again, I know it when I hear it, but are there
writings out there that try to define some specifics. This is a tough
one because so many genres blend together, but I'm hoping that there's
something out there that tries to provide clarification.)
Anyone have suggestions? I would love any recommendations for the
basics of an EDM library.
Meghan
