[Dancecult-l] Current journals on EDM music making

This is a bit of a tangent to the question -- but I can't help but think
that studying XLR8R magazine, born in San Francisco, from it's rave day
scene reportage to its current lifestyle music mag status would grant an
exceptional insight into the evolution of a crossbreed of EDMs..
specifically as they move/d from subculture to counterculture to becoming
the "culture industry" itself.

I must admit, when I delved into academic EDMC research a few years back,
especially the various British & American cultural studies variants, I found
so many mistakes among academic papers (save for a few souls who are notably
on this very list) that I lost some faith in trusting said research. Today
the situation appears much more informed, but it leaves the founding EDMC
research in need of a serious reassessment and critique.

That said, one of the most interesting general papers on the patterns of
"evolution" is still probably Will Straw's paper on circulation and vinyl,
"Scenes and Communities in Popular Music," originally circa the late '80s,
anthologized in _The Subcultures Reader_ (v1 or 2). There are others of
course, but I'm always partial to taking a strong look at what the various
scene/s have written about themselves ...

So, where is everyone publishing these days? Journal for Popular Music or
JPM Studies ? Other venues ? I'm curious to hear ..

I must admit, I've been keeping my eye on the various books coming out,
specifically texts such as Alexander Weheliye's _Phonographies_ and the
like...

best, tV
