The "teenager" is still public enemy #1. Ever since younger people gained more
economic power 50ish years ago, the state has battled all forms of youth
gatherings. The state seems to conduct itself like a nasty bully.

Nimbin, a quiet country town in Nth NSW, australia, has an annual hemp festival
- actually it's call a Cannabis Law Reform festival - and since 2000 there has
been a doof associated with the festival. This year it's not happening because
the council and cops won't issue the necessary permit. The doof is the
sacrificial lamb, the whipping post for the hatred the state has towards the
hemp festival. It's harder to stop the main festival because up to 10,000
people turn up for this annual gathering . . .

The state seems determined to set up a situation where there will indeed be
trouble - they're experts in the self fulfilling prophecy department. If you
remove the space where thousands of people can safely celebrate (after a
midnight curfew in the town), then for sure the cops will be busting heads
around midnight this saturday night . . . they will then use this as ammunition
to try and stop the hemp festival in the future . . .
