[Dancecult-l] violence

Wow! Cheers for letting us know that the event has been cancelled. I guess
it's just a matter of waiting and seeing what the implications of this will
be. Nimbin's Mardigrass is an institution, and the event, as well as
standard Nimbin smoking practices, have been under real scrutiny since a few
years ago when high positions in district law enforcement were restructured.
I was passing through there just when this happened and in the 2 hours
that I was in the main street, a major fight broke out and I was literally
accosted by locals who didn't want to sell me pot, but who were sussing out
whether I was a cop or not (much, much more than normal). The paranonia set
in motion by state goverments plan to stir things up was very real...and now
it seems it's having effects on the well known ritual festival. Before this
time it was such a dubby, peaceful, fun town, where being able to buy smoke
in the main street was a novelty for visitors, but the norm for the locals.
Hmmm, interesting.
