Well, I would offer McGill University's Communication Studies department,
insofar as it offers support in popular music and sound studies with Will
Straw (familiar to those who have read the 'Subcultural Studies Reader' and
articles on vinyl, collecting and acid house culture) and Jonathan Sterne
(The Audible Past). It has a strong bent in philosophy of technology and
media studies, with all the main influences well represented (critical
theory; gender, race & queer studies; cultural studies; policy and
governmentality studies) however there are many scholars who use ethnography
as a methodology to accomplish their work. best, tobias
