[Dancecult-l] literature on performer-audience divide

Hi Ripley - Have you read Norman Stolzoff's book Wake the Town and
Tell the People: Dancehall Culture in Jamaica (Duke, 2000)? Chapter
7, "The Dancehall Performance," seems particularly relevant. It's
the most thorough examination of audience/performer interactions in a
sound system setting that I've come across so far (the point in this
case being that there is no clear divide). I've yet to see Stolzoff
referenced in EDM work but hopefully he'll begin to make an impact,
especially where dancehall-related scenes (ardkore, jungle, 2step,
etc.) are in question.

Hope that helps a bit.

Paul
