::fibreculture:: email politics: "Work decision means certainty for Qantas Frequent Flyers"

Actually this is the typical management rhetoric and tactics in Australia at the moment. At UNSW we regularly received such emails from the vice chancellor during the 2 years of union industrial action. This is a deliberate tactic from a particular brand of people in management positions in Australia (and probably UK I suspect) in the last couple of years. These people are 'known' as union busters and their tactics are to appeal via personal messaging to both 'customers' and 'shareholders'.

What is really interesting is when they start confusing these categories and email their own workforce as well ( ie such as at UNSW)....but of course that's a tactic as well.

This is where unions need to be developing much better links with organisations such as Getup who have a massive mailing list database.....but that takes a lot of on-the-ground cultivation as Getup works fairly democratically across its member base in online forums to decide on what campaigns to run etc...it might not take up industrial action support campaigns,

cheers
Anna
