The Bartlett at UCL is running a project, to start in Nov 2011, in collaboration with Mixed Reality Lab, Nottingham University on ‘connected communities': local and remote, digital and physical, mediated through networked urban screens. The main aspect is combining
the physical location(s) with networked communities (digital and/or technologically mediated communities through social media and /or digital interactive screens.<br>

The project will research the design, implementation and evaluation of 4 networked urban screens in Waltham Forest and Nottingham by engaging with the primary project partner (Waltham Forest), the community and the Artist in Residence.<br>
<br>
The aim is to explore the potential of networked urban screens for communities and culture by engaging directly with the community in order to develop the screen content/applications and mediated experiences.<br>

Duties and Responsibilities<br>
</b></span><font size="2"><span style="font-size:10pt">Applicants with the suitable knowledge, experience, skills, and aptitude are invited for the position of Research Associate to carry out an EPSRC ‘Research in the Wild’ funded project at the Space Group,
University College London. The research project explores the design, implementation and evaluation of a network of interactive digital screens in urban space. The project will work closely with communities (local and remote) and relevant stakeholders. The
research results will be generated through real implementations in London and Nottingham and the evaluation of urban experience mediated through the screens network. During the project, the successful candidate(s) will be involved in the urban analysis, site
selection and the evaluation of the urban and social impact of the located technologies. They will be involved in the analysis of stakeholders requirements and will engage with the public in order to evaluate interactions mediated through the screens network.
The successful candidate(s) will work together with the project Artist in Residence, Research Associate in Nottingham and all project stakeholders to support the development of site specific screen applications and mediated experience. <br>

</b></span><font size="2"><span style="font-size:10pt">Essential knowledge and skills include a first degree (or equivalent) and preferably a higher degree (Masters/PhD [or equivalent] in a related subject (Architecture/urban design, digital anthropology, digital
humanities, interaction design) and preferably with knowledge of urban analysis and observation methods and experience with real world projects and/or in user/community related projects. They will either be a postdoctoral researcher (or equivalent) or have
some post-degree experience in industry and be interested in, or already have experience with the area of human computer interaction (HCI). A good knowledge of social media and a wiki based web site is highly desirable as are strong communication and organizational
skills.<br>
