Deadline extended until Monday, August 8!
The Film and Media Festivals SIG calls for papers for the SCMS Conference in Denver (April 12-15, 2023).
We look forward to reconnecting in person with film festival scholars, festival practitioners, and friends during the upcoming SCMS conference, which will be held in Denver, Colorado at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel. You can find the general call for papers on the conference page: https://scms-conference.secure-platform.com/a/organizations/main/home.
The SIG would like to facilitate and streamline festival research papers by coordinating panels from individual submissions, which later need to be submitted to SCMS as pre-constituted panels. To join a pre-constituted panel sponsored by the SIG, submit a paper title no longer than 120 characters, an abstract no longer than 2500 characters, 3-5 bibliographic sources, and an author bio no longer than 500 characters. Please keep in mind that individual presentations at SCMS last a maximum of 20 minutes.
The suggested panel/workshop titles/themes are for your consideration. If you wish, feel free to suggest another! We are providing this service to help coordinate the papers of the SIG members so that a maximum number have the best chance of being selected to participate in the conference; this has proven to be a very successful tactic.
Suggested panel and workshop themes:*
- Film festival organizing practices
- Festivals and awards
- Theorizing American film festivals
- Research methods in festival studies
- Digital festival practices
- Festivals as forums for diversity
- Networks, distribution, and audiences
- Film exhibition at festivals
