Title: Documentary Film Festivals: transnationalcrossroads for films and professionals

This presentationwill look at the international documentary film festival ecosystem, focusing ontransnational power dynamics that operate within it. It will reflect on therole of specialised festival circuit as nodal points for the recognition andconsolidation of filmmakers and films and the promotion of cultural diversity.Particular attention will be given to geo-political areas of influence, andcultural power relationships articulated at the festival site.

Aida Vallejo isassociate professor at the University of the Basque Country (Spain) andresearcher specialised on documentary film, film festivals and creativeindustries. She has co-edited the books Documentary Film Festivals Vol.1 andVol.2 and Film Festivals and Anthropology. Currently she isresearch fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities at theUniversity of Edinburgh, where she develops a Digital Humanities researchproject about institutes of documentary film.
