Thursday at New Horizons
Today there are events waiting for you all the way to the horizon: 54 screenings at the New Horizons Cinema and the Lower Silesian Film Center (including a screening of student films on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Film School in Lodz), a concert by the Kuba Stankiewicz Trio and Waszynski’s The Great Way at the Wroclaw Market Square, Scola’s Le Bal with live music in the garden of the Wroclaw Pantomime Theater, Pawlikowski’s Cold War with a later concert by Marcin Masecki at Bulvary, Silent Disco on dACH!, plus exhibitions and a multitude of attractions at the Festival Backyard.
Have a decent caloric breakfast, for this promises to be the most intense day of the festival. In addition to the highlights described above, we also invite you to 11 meetings with 21 filmmakers. If you want to focus on a single trope out of the plethora of possibilities, we particularly recommend the Third Eye section, which this year looks at non-binary, fluid identities that cannot be closed in straightforward categories. Such optics were also chosen in her creative work by the legendary Monika Treut, whom we have the great pleasure to host at the 23rd mBank New Horizons. We encourage you to follow Third Eye’s gaze and attend meetings with Treut on Thursday and Friday: today after screenings of the iconic Seduction: The Cruel Woman (16:00) and Gendernauts (19:15), and tomorrow after a screening of Genderation (16:15).
Seduction: The Cruel Woman, dir. Elfi Mikesch, Monika Treut
It’s worth showing up early at the Market Square today. At 20:30, a concert will begin here by one of Poland’s best jazz pianists, Kuba Stankiewicz, who, together with Wojciech Pulcyn (double bass) and Sebastian Frankiewicz (drums), will play pieces inspired by the work of the outstanding Polish composer Henryk Wars. Stay after the concert for a 22:00 screening of The Great Way (1938) by Michał Waszyński, featuring the unforgettable music of Wars. Admission to the concert and Cinema at the Market Square is free, subject to seat availability. The event is organized in cooperation with FINA (National Film Archive – Audiovisual Institute).
Cold War and a Marcin Masecki concert
At 22:00, we invite you to Bulvary for a screening of Pawel Pawlikowski’s Cannes award-winning feature. Cold War is a film that is both intimate and emotional, bursting with carefully composed black-and-white cinematography. The screening will be followed by a concert by Marcin Masecki – pianist, composer, conductor, and one of the most acclaimed contemporary jazz artists, who composed or arranged most of the music for Cold War. Bulvary also offers free parking (up to and including July 30) as well as Food and Chill-out zones.
Ettore Scola’s Le Bal with live music in the garden of the Wrocław Pantomime Theater
The Wrocław Pantomime Theater invites you to the next installment of Cinema in the Garden. This time, the famous Le Bal (1983) by Ettore Scola will be a pretext for musical explorations for composer and multi-instrumentalist Grzegorz Mazoń. The event will start at 21:00.

Art and the Festival Backyard on the horizon
Those craving non-film art will also find solace at the SiC! gallery of BWA and the BWA Studio gallery, where you can enjoy (respectively) the exhibitions From Within and Avec Plasir (at 18:00 there’ll be the last curatorial tour). We also encourage you to visit the Wrocław Old Town Hall, where Kasia Kmita's exhibition, Contrafactur, awaits. You can experience the new Ambient Room at IP Studio.
The later part of the evening is worth a visit to the Festival Backyard, where the crews of Recepcja and Surowiec clubs invariably have plenty of delights for you. At 22:00, you can either a) listen and dance to the music of DJ Kaczy at Recepcja, or b) sing and dance during karaoke at Surowiec. Or c) circulate between the two lovely venues.
Coffee, my glorious coffee
And more. A wide variety of savory and sweet snacks await you at the New Horizons Cinema bistro, including those from Dobra Kaloria, as well as NITRO cold brew, Fritz Kola and oodles of other refreshments. The cinema bistro is a perfect place to satisfy your non-film hunger in between screenings.
