[Filmfestivalresearch] Avant-garde/Experimental Festivals

To all you film festival historians out there:

I just joined the board of the Ann Arbor Film Festival <https://www.aafilmfest.org/history-mission>, which - now in its 61st year – bills itself as “ oldest avant-garde and experimental film festival in North America.”

Yesterday someone said “why North America? Is there an older (as in: longer-running) avant-garde and experimental film festival anywhere else in the world?”

I said that if anyone would know, it would be members of this group: thoughts?

Thanks!

Johannes
