Sirât by Oliver Laxe and Resurrection by Bi Gan, awarded at Cannes, to premiere in Poland at the 25th BNP Paribas New Horizons IFF
The world of art cinema waits all year for this evening—and we, too, look forward to the Cannes verdicts with great anticipation. This year, as the New Horizons Association, we have two special reasons to celebrate: the festival awarded Oliver Laxe’s Sirât and Bi Gan’s Resurrection—the former with the Jury Prize (Prix du jury), and the latter with the Special Jury Prize (Prix spécial). Both films will be screened at the 25th BNP Paribas New Horizons IFF (July 17–27), and later we’ll have the pleasure of bringing them to cinemas across Poland.

  Resurrection, dir. Bi Gan
These and other Cannes titles are best experienced with a festival pass in hand—especially now, while you can still get one at a special price thanks to the Bank BNP Paribas Film Visa Card. There’s only a limited number of passes left—get yours while you can.

  In the desert
Sirât by Oliver Laxe turned out to be one of the most electrifying films of this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The story of a father searching for his daughter at illegal desert raves in Morocco is a stripped-down blend of a survivalist thriller in the spirit of The Wages of Fear, mixed with the critical gaze of Zabriskie Point. Phenomenally shot by the director of the haunting Fire Will Come, the film keeps you on edge, captivates with Kangding Ray’s stunning soundtrack, and lingers long after the credits roll. A cinematic adventure.
  From film to film
Resurrection by Chinese director Bi Gan (Long Day’s Journey into Night) is total cinema—a formally dazzling ode to the film medium itself. This epic work takes us through five extraordinary cinematic journeys: from expressionist silent film and film noir to Buddhist parable, magical realism, and even a wild vampire love story. Resurrection is slow, mesmerizing, delightful—a celebration of pure cinematic imagination.
The jury awarded this year’s Palme d’Or to Jafar Panahi’s Un Simple Accident—a story about the thirst for revenge, where one man’s personal tragedy confronts systemic corruption, and the pain of the individual is confronted with fundamental questions of justice and morality. Congratulations to all the winners!
The 25th BNP Paribas New Horizons International Film Festival takes place in Wrocław, July 17–27, with an online edition continuing through August 3—so you can experience the festival from anywhere. The full program will be announced on July 1, and sales of individual on-site and online screening tickets will begin on July 3.
