<p>Promoting free exchange of ideas, presenting independent cinema and supporting human rights defenders continues to be needed. In this newsletter, we present how we support human rights film festivals worldwide, working towards these goals.</p></font>

We are proud to announce our recent support to 9 exciting and relevant film festivals. Three of them have a thematic focus on women's rights. These are the "We Are Here" Women's Rights Film Festival in the Triangle region of <strong>Israel</strong>, the new online Feminist Film Festival in <strong>Ukraine</strong> and the Outsider Moving Art & Film Festival, a travelling festival in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan in <strong>India</strong>.</p></font>

<td><font size="2" color="#000000" style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 16px; "><p><br>In <strong>Moldova</strong> we support the project Moldox Bridges, a spin-off of the annual Moldox festival, presenting documentary films in a small city at the Romanian border. The Qara Film Festival in <strong>Kazakhstan</strong> aims to challenge the cultural separation between Russian and Kazakh speaking audiences. Also in <strong>Kenya</strong> film screenings are a starting point for cross community dialogue; the brand new Under Our Skin Film Festival aims at reducing tensions between people with different ethnic and political affiliations.</p></font>

In <strong>Brazil</strong>, the second edition of the Taturana human rights film festival in Sao Paulo presents high-quality cinema to promote dialogue on democracy and institutional racism in Brazil. In <strong>Colombia</strong>, we support two bi-annual festivals: the International Environmental Film Festival of Cali – FINCALI, and the African Film Festival – MUICA.</p>

<font size="2" color="#000000" style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 16px; "><p>Last week the opening of the <a href="https://bok-o-bok.com/en/" target="_blank">Side by Side LGBT Film Festival</a> in Saint Petersburg, Russia, was raided by an army of heavy-handed police officers, who evacuated the premises and blocked entrances and nearby streets. Meanwhile, a large group of nationalist and extremist anti-LGBT activists protested aggressively. Furthermore, festival organisers have received death threats and threats of physical violence if they would not comply to demands of removing websites, social media and close down the Side by Side organisation.</p>
<p>As a partner of this important festival, Movies that Matter calls on all those who value human rights to support the Side by Side Festival by <a href="https://bok-o-bok.com/en/news/side-by-side-opening-stormed-by-police-and-surrounded-by-nationalists" target="_blank">sharing this information publicly</a> on your website or social media, or by <a href="https://bok-o-bok.com/en/" target="_blank">making a donation</a>. We strongly condemn the repression of a peaceful, law-abiding event. This should not go unwitnessed and without due legal redress.</p></font>
