Hi INC-folks,

Berlin is under lockdown and we are relaunching the SILENT WORKS
project. More than ever dedicated to exploring the HIDDEN LABOR IN
AI-CAPITALISM, our project re-emerges under (repeated) lockdown as the
‘Berliner Gazette Winter School 2020.’

*On-site*

Although a closed facility, the Winter School is accessible: You can
visit the Winter School at the Haus der Statistik by appointment only.
For regular use of the Winter School as a learning facility or
co-working space, you can request a work and study desk by sending an
email under info(at)berlinergazette.de. Potential visiting hours are
Wed-Sat 1-7 p.m., November 7-28, 2020. Please note: It is obligatory to
wear a face mask and practice social distancing when entering and
exploring the space.

On-site resources are provided by research groups, inter-disciplinary
collectives, activist initiatives, and artists including Benjamin
Heisenberg (Switzerland), Diego de la Vega Coffee Co-op (Mexico/US),
eeefff (Belarus/Russia), Giorgi Gago Gagoshidze (Georgia), Into the
Black Box (Italy), Melanie Gilligan (Canada), metroZones (Germany),
NoCyberValley (Germany), oddviz (Turkey), Peng! (Germany), Petero Kalulé
(Uganda/UK) / AM Kanngieser (Australia), Shinseungback Kimyonghun (South
Korea), Tekla Aslanishvili (Georgia), and University of the Phoenix
(Canada). Here are photographs from the on-site space, including

*Online*

Over the course of the month, the Winter School will be providing online
access to all resources in digital form on this website:
https://silentworks.info The first resources available include booklets,
artworks, and online dossiers. Other highlights on the Berliner Gazette
Winter School online program include statements and talks. For instance,
you can watch an inauguration welcome address by Klaus Lederer (Senator
for Culture and Europe of Berlin and Deputy Governing Mayor of Berlin)
on vimeo here: https://vimeo.com/475854253

This weekend the three-day workshops of the Winter School are taking
place: “AAI,” “CAPTCHA Factory,” “Dull, Dangerous + Dirty,” “Logistical
Noir,” and “Invisible Organization.” Led by experienced group leaders,
participants from more than 25 countries are invited to come up with
projects responding to the questions raised by the SILENT WORKS
initiative. The projects will be made available as online resources and
may include position papers, multimedia storytelling projects, and
collections of ideas.

*Lecture by Phoebe Moore*

On Wednesday November 25th, 2020 at 6 p.m., Phoebe Moore (UK), a
researcher pioneering the study of labor in the digital era, will take
us on a tour to the hidden labor struggles in today's AI-capitalism. Dr.
Moore is Associate Professor of the Futures of Work at University of
Leicester and author of “The Quantified Self in Precarity. Work,
Technology and What Counts” (2018). If you are interested in attending
Moore’s online lecture, please register under info(at)berlinergazette.de

Kind regards,

Krystian

PS: If you find some time, please have a look at the SILENT WORKS text
series that we are running on Berliner Gazette (in German). In October
we published new contributions by Darija Medić (“Unsichtbar gemachte
Entscheider*innen: Content-Moderation, KI und Arbeitskämpfe im
Internet”), Shintaro Miyazaki (“Kritisieren, Träumen und Gestalten: Wie
gegen den KI-Kapitalismus ankämpfen?”), Moritz Altenried, Manuela
Bojadžijev und Mira Wallis (“Die ‘Caring Crowd’: Wenn hinter dem Label
KI eigentlich digitale Heimarbeit steckt”). Here is the overview of
latest texts:

PPS: Those of you who just now are tuning into the SILENT WORKS
conversation, the English language edition of selected SILENT WORKS
interviews on Mediapart.fr could be of interest. You can find these
