The majority of the world’s population is now dependent on cities as a
place to live. But cities are also ‘engines of growth’ and as such
integral to colonial-capitalist globalization that produces, for
example, pandemics, resource wars, and the increasing violence of
climate change. Meanwhile, the growing instability of planetary
eco-systems – as evidenced by extreme weather events and rising sea
levels – shows that cities are particularly vulnerable to the
consequences of the very crises they generate in the service of growth.
How can we politicize the dual role of cities as both drivers and
‘victims’ of the disasters of our time? *How can we reclaim and reinvent
cities as infrastructures of both human and other-than-human life? How
can we connect urban and ecological struggles?* The three-day “Kin City”
event aims to explore these questions. With Debora Darabi, Pepe Dayaw,
Nelli Kambouri, Svjetlana Nedimović, Claudia Núñez, Sara Petrolova,
Christine Winter, Dzina Zhuk, and many more.
