Update from the Refugee Camps in the World Garden in Amsterdam and in  
Sellingen (Gr.)

On Thursday evening a nice big tent came to the Winter Garden behind  
the World House with real beds for some 10 people to sleep. The  
Protestant Diacony agreed to provide this shelter to support the  
purpose of the action that started last Tuesday (4th of sept). The  
purpose of the action is to push forward to realize places to go for  
refugees on the street before winter sets in.

This means that in the night there will be peace and quiet in the  
camp. There is place for those who come and really need it. But it is  
not an invitation to everybody to come now for sleeping.

On the other hand, in the day time, the garden is a great space for  
various activities for people on the street. It is not only for  
underdocumenyed refugees, also the union of homeless gets together

In the daytime, the World garden is now a meeting place for all who  
want to contribute to develop the struggle of the regfugees. Finbally  
everybody needs a place to be, a health insurance, the right to work  
and school. The first priority is to make shelter for all before it  
gets cold. We can do that, if we come and stay together and join  
hands with friends.

On the other end of Holland, the 40 men of the camp in Sellingen  
walked all the way to the IND in Ter Apel to demonstrate and demand  
solutions from IND for those who have nowhere to go. The IND invited  
the campers for a meeting, but since they had nothing to offer, the  
meeting did not take place. And the campers walked back to their  
camp. They have permission to be there until the 14th of September.  
What is the next move?

Let us move together, from Summer Camp and World Garden to Winter  
Gardens and warm place to be!

[WE ARE HERE is the name of M2M's Campaign with the movements of the 
Refugees-on-the-Street in The Netherlands]

The situation on the 12th of September.

Today Dutch citizens can vote for a new parliament. Today more than 40
refugees on the street are camping for weeks already in Sellingen, but
the mayor told them to move out on Friday 14th. They will probably move
and walk on.

In Amsterdam a growing group of mostly African refugees started on the 4th
of September making camp in one tent in the Winter Garden behind the
Church charity organization calledProtestantse  Diaconie. There is place
for 14 people, but many people come for help to the tent and to the World
House. It is a meeting place and a place to come together and find a way
to proceed together. Address: Nieuwe Herengracht 20, near Waterlooplein.

On Tuesday 18 the Somali group from AZC Almere  goes to the court session
in The Hague to argue against the limitations on their movement (stamping
everyday, not moving out of town).

All of us are talking and working to move on together and there are
already some great ideas.  There are good ideas for action, and for
organizing.

On the 1st of September  30 people from the protest camp in Ter Apel and
some supporters came together to talk about the power of the camp and how
to build on that. One great idea was to create a Parliament of Refugees
for refugees of all nationalities, to find the common ground and purpose
and speak with one voice. The reports of the conference are available

WE ARE HERE
in the Wertheim Park to build a

CAMP against the COLD

Refugees on the Streets of Amsterdam invite you to join their CAMP against 
the COLD on Sunday 23rd of September in the Wertheim Park, 
Plantagemiddenlaan in the center of Amsterdam.

The picknick starts at 12 to show and tell how we live on the street, or in 
a tent. We eat and drink what refugees in need normally consume. And we 
start building shelters and survival kits for the winter. This is a serious 
exercise for the next camp in Amsterdam that will open soon.

All proposals and actions to find shelter for 1000 persons before the winter 
hits are welcome. They will be brought together in the General Assembly that 
starts at 7 o'clock.
