Workshop Mike Figgis



British film maker Mike Figgis will teach a workshop from 28 – 30 May  
at Rialto in Amsterdam called ‘Digitial Camera’. Figgis is invited  
by the Mediafonds, the Performing Arts Fund NL and the Binger Filmlab  
in relation to the project Point Taken.
This cross disciplinary dance film project initiated by the Mediafonds  
and the Performing Arts Fund NL, in cooperation with Cinedans and the  
NPS gives four teams of choreographers and film makers the chance to  
realize a short dance film. The premiere will take place in December  
during Cinedans and the films will be broadcast bij the NPS. Selected  
filmmakers will take part of the three-day film workshop by Mike Figgis.
Participation of this workshop is also possible for Binger students,  
independent filmmakers, choreographers and other interested people.
Mike Figgis, director of Leaving Las Vegas, directed in 2000 the  
unique film Timecode.
Four camera operators filmed simultaneous in 95 minute takes 35  
actors, including Holly Hunter, Selma Hayek and Stellan Skarsgard.  
There was no conventional film script, the actors only got a rough  
idea about the storylines, the takes were not edited.
Choreography and formal music composition were the only coordinators  
in this complex adventure that was shown split screen as a four-fold  
simultaneous composition. During the workshop Mike Figgis will be  
analyzing 4 different versions of Timecode.
