Dr. boyd was one of the first social scientists who turned to in-depth social-scientific research of this new and blooming online phenomenon. In the past years her research has focused on the ways in which young people use social network sites such as Facebook and MySpace to construct and express identities and manage relationships with others. Dr. boyd currently conducts research on social media at Microsoft Research New England, is a fellow at Harvard University's Berkman Center for Internet and Society, and a Visiting Fellow at TILT. The title of dr. boyd's talk, a one-hour presentation, is 'How social media is reworking privacy and publicity'. These are:<br>- Nine Ludwig, responsible for community communications in the Dutch social network site Hyves (<a href="http://www.hyves.nl">www.hyves.nl</a>), which is immensely popular in the Netherlands. Ms. Ludwig will talk about privacy from the perspective of a provider, and explain how Hyves attempts to improve privacy protection in its network.<br>- Prof. dr. Ronald Leenes of the Tilburg Institute for Law, Technology and Society, who is the founder of the most recent sprig on the tree of social network sites: a privacy-enhanced social network site called Clique (<a href="http://clique.primelife.eu/">http://clique.primelife.eu/</a>), in which two years of social-scientific analysis of privacy issues in existing social network sites such as Facebook, MySpace and Hyves were translated into concrete implementations for improved privacy protection.<br><br>The afternoon will be chaired and moderated by dr. Bibi van den Berg of the Tilburg Institute for Law, Technology and Society.
