Although I'm getting these Nesta newsletters, I'm thinking of 
unsubscribing.
It is a charity (?) that shows off with a lot of woolly text, while 
sitting
on funding that doesn't seem to be going anywhere. E.g.:

While the real future internet is being built in the fediverse by people 
living on
a shoestring, while most don't care.

Billions is a new old-fashioned email list for sharing information related to the impacts of social media and big digital networks on our lives and our communities. It?s a way for us to critically contribute to and keep track of the unfolding stories of social media and big digital across our planet, and to connect us with like-minded others. 

Researchers, activists, artists, ai/crypto/engineers, and curious others are all welcome to join. Please share news items, academic research and other posts that may be relevant to the topic.  

This list may evolve over time and become more defined, but for now we welcome you to join and share news, events and other information related to social media and big digital networks.

Dear Geert,

More and more big international social networks like Facebook are 
replaced by private local social networks like Hoplr and Postbuzz. They 
typically lock up users in neighbourhood enclaves. Their services are 
differentiated. Hoplr offers 4 modules to city governments, intercity 
services and project developers: communication, citizen participation, 
insights, community work & care.

I'm starting to analyse them here in Belgium. Hoplr is present in 
Brussels (117 neighbourhoods), Brugge (9 neighourhoods), Ghent (44 
neighbourhoods), Antwerp and some smaller cities. They also roll out in 
smaller municipalities and are expanding to? the Netherlands.

Since I live in Ghent, I went undercover more than a year ago, as an 
ambassador (community manager) until they threw me out. I wrote my first

A 16 year-old girl has reportedly killed herself in Malaysia, after posting a poll on her Instagram account asking followers if she should die or not, and 69% of responders voting that she should.

Police in the east Malaysia state Sarawak said the girl, who has not been named, posted the poll on the photo sharing app with the message: ?Really Important, Help Me Choose D/L?. After most responders voted for ?death?, she killed herself.
