I wonder if someone is following what is happening in italy regarding  
Beppe Grillo Movement.
The thing is huge.
to resume:
Beppe Grillo is an Italian  satirist. He was thrown out of public TV  
in the 80' es for saying in a live show that the socialist party was  
a bunch of thieves. They were. In the next 20 years or so he hardly  
was back on mass media. Still his shows were always full, and the  
videotaped version selling out. With time he specialized in criticism  
of economics and politics, from a sort of stand-up-comedian show.
In 2002 he started to criticize Parmalat, telling the story of about  
fake finances in a way that was understandable by all. When after  
many people loss a lot of money and happens that he foresaw many more  
were driven to his shows "with pen and paper". Still in total silence  
over him from italian mass-media.
Somewhere around 2005 he opened a blog. You can follow it if you like  
on www.beppegrillo.it. Same thones; a very violent but documented and  
understandable by all.

Recently (the 8th of september) he launched a demonstration called V- 
day from Vaffanculo (fuck-off) were the f world was to the political  
class in-toto, that he started calling "our workers" referring to the  
taxpayer money. The scope of the demonstration was to collect  
signature to propose a law. The contents of the law are clear:
a) you cannot be elected if you have been found guilty in trial and  
condemned
b) you cannot be re-elected to the parliament if you have been  
elected twice
if passed a law like this would empty both italian chambers

the manifestations sprouted in many cities and more than 300'000  
signature were collected in few hours.

Thus not being a neglect-able underground phenomenon Grillo started  
to be attacked on the media on a daily base.

Is an interesting study  case because:
- - most of the materials are translated immediately to english
- - audio and video is distributed using you-tube and street-tv
- - is a completely autonomous phenomena not exactly liked or supported  
by any relevant political force on the field
- - the blog has 30'000 hit a day and the movement has not had a  
relevant appearance on newspapers/tv until the 8th of september
- - supports the so called "civil society" in a large campaign of  
information and action against strong powers in italy with new  
strategies not immune to criticism.
- - is becoming a mass movement and is completely organized on the network
