Dear friends, colleagues, collaborators:

I'm pleased to be able - at long last! - to share with you the
invitation to the public defence of my doctoral dissertation. 
It's in Belgium, and the forecast is for steady rain next week, so I
know I don't have many strong arguments to persuade you to make the
journey, even if it were feasible for you. But all small prayers,
idiosyncratic rituals, and / or other forms of intervention on my behalf
- whether divine, magical or material - will be gratefully received! 
And if you do make it to Hasselt, we can offer you iftar on Thursday,
and lunch on the Friday, in order to say thank you! 
(Reservation required).

See you on the other side, I hope. And meanwhile, thank you all for your
companionship, support, intellectual stimulation, political solidarity,
and/or simple curiosity over the last five years or more: I needed all
of that to get this far.

NB both events will be in English, but the performance and film on
Thursday will be sub- or super-titled in Dutch. Please feel free to
