<videovortex> changes at INC, towards a central email list

Dear VideoVortex members,

there’s a lot to report. First of all, in 1-2 weeks the third Video Vortex will be ready! The publication will become available as a pdf and epub and as a print on demand via Lulu. I will try to find money for a print edition but that’s not certain yet.

There are still ideas to do a Video Vortex #13 in Rome in 2021. More on that later.

Then there is the fate of this email list. For many years the traffic has decreased to, at best, one post a week, mostly announcements with zero discussion. It can hardly be called a community channel (half of those posting were from me anyway).

Over the years our INC research unit has been shrinking. Now we’re facing another change with Inte, Patricia and Inte leaving. To simply matters, and to reduce our focus on the dead medium called email, I have decided to centralize all INC email lists into one in the hope that it will create a synthesis of topics and approaches (between INC topics such as search, money, aesthetics, activism etc.) and create a more lively discussion. Will it be a dead cat bounce? We’ll see.

Needless to say, this hurts a bit but the evidence is overwhelming, have a look at the VV list archive, if you like: http://listcultures.org/pipermail/videovortex_listcultures.org/.

Soon I post the announcement here and then you can decide if you want to subscribe to the new list. We will not resubscribe anyone automatically.

What do you think?

Best, Geert
