</span><span style="font-weight:bold">Media Arts and Cinema Poetics<br></span><span style="font-weight:bold">March 16th and 17th</span></font></p><p><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif">Through screenings and discussions the </font><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif">9th Annual Brakhage Center Symposium</span><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"> will explore art practices, and assumptions about cinema art, the historical avant-garde and the media arts. We have seen, for many decades, the parallel development of experimental filmmaking art alongside electronic moving image making. This year’s symposium will play host to perspectives on the relation and poetics of these practices.</font></p>
<p></p><p style="line-height:18px;outline:none"><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif">This years programmers are: Glenn Phillips, <i>Principal Project Specialist and Consulting Curator Department of Architecture and Contemporary Art at the Getty Research Institute</i>, Mark Toscano, Archivist and Preservationist at the <i>Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences</i> and Don Yannacito, <i>University of Colorado Boulder</i> <a href="http://www.internationalfilmseries.com/first_person_cinema/" target="_blank" style="outline:none;text-decoration:initial">First Person Cinema</a> Guest Filmmaker Programmer. Artists Jennifer Reeder and Jennifer West will be joined by Sally Dixon (former Director of <i>Film In the Cities</i> program ), Suranjan Ganguly (<i>University of Colorado, Boulder</i>), John Powers (<i>University of Wisconsin, Madison</i>) and Tom Gunning (<i>University of Chicago</i>).</font></p>
<p style="line-height:18px;outline:none"><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif">Jennifer Reeder will be a visiting artist with the <a href="http://cuart.colorado.edu/events/diana-thater/" target="_blank" style="outline:none;text-decoration:initial">Department of Art and Art History</a>. She will be creating a brand new black box installation that will premier at the symposium entitled A MILLION MILES AWAY.</font></p>
