Dear all,
a good 2015 from Amsterdam. I am usually not in agreement with the Silicon Valley venture capital class but this general assessment seems right: "It's only getting started now." It is funny: the text does not even mention Netflix, HBO, Vice and so on. The narrow scope on Google and Facebook is a bit limiting but the remarks about the failing revenue models right now are spot on.
As we all know film studies, television studies and art history are deep asleep and are not paying any structural organized attention to the growth of online video across the globe. Or did we miss something? The Netherlands is not all that different. So far INC has not been successful in finding money for a VV in Amsterdam.
However, there are efforts under way to organize VideoVortex events in the UK and in Norway (Trondheim) but both of them are planned for 2016.
INC will welcome Rosa Menkman as a one-year INC research fellow. She will start on February 1. Rosa is known for her scratch video research and art works and is right now in the middle of her PhD on this topic
Also, this year Andreas Teske's book on online video will come out with Transkript Verlag (in English).
I lost track of the latest developments but the third reader is indeed in progress, produced by our friends in Berlin/Lueneburg.
