<div><span style="font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif; color:black">I am writing to let you know about the publication of my book
<i>A Poetics of Editing</i>.</span><span style="font-family: Calibri, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> The premise is that editing, like other forms of ‘making’, is mostly invisible and can only be brought into full view through a comparative analysis that includes
the insights of practitioners. It proposes a new field of editing studies, in which the ‘ideal editor’ can be understood as part of a relationship with the long-theorised author and reader.
</span>The book takes issue with critical theory and proposes a materialist poetics that proposes ways of moving forward that supports practice. The history section ranges from early print to early digital. A chapter on contemporary digital culture makes an
argument about the oddly central place of anti-editing rhetoric in that form of idealism.<br>
