Where once the factory was a paradigmatic site of struggle between workers and capitalists, so now the university is a key space of conflict, where the ownership of knowledge, the reproduction of the labour force, and the creation of social and cultural stratifications are all at stake.? A few years ago in its manifesto, the edu-factory collective underlined the *productive and conflictive dimension of the contemporary university*. But in fact the university does not at all function like a factory, and we are not nostalgic for the struggles of the past. This statement was rather the indication of a political problem. If we begin with the incommensurable spatio-temporal differences between the actual functions of the university and those of the factory, what are the political stakes of their comparison? In other words: how can the problem of organization be rethought in the aftermath of the demise of its traditional forms such as the union and the political party? Today the economic crisis has opened new spaces to rethink the function of the university and the *production of knowledge itself on a global scale*. In other words, we have the chance to rethink the rise of the global university, as well as its crisis. Within edu-factory, we refer to this as the double crisis. On the one hand it is an acceleration of the crisis specific to the university that marks its end, the inevitable result of its eroded epistemological status; on the other hand it is also the crisis of postfordist conditions of labor and value, many of which circulate through the university. ?We won?t pay for your crisis?: this was the slogan of Italian ?*Anomalous Wave*?, that is, the refusal to pay the cost of economic crisis and the crisis of university itself. The slogan was translated in other struggles, in different forms but with a common goal. Starting from this point, we want to outline this double crisis from a global perspective. From *India* to* Brazil*, from *US* to *Europe*, we want to focus on different experiences to think about the production of *a transnational common space of debate and action*. Dall`*India* al *Brasile*, dagli *USA* all`*Europa*, focalizzando differenti esperienze per pensare la costruzione di uno *spazio comune* *transnazionale* di dibattito e azione. www.edu-factory.org www.factoryofthecommon.org www.busman.qmul.ac.uk/gl www.uniriot.org more info: * *<%20%3Cscript%20language=%27JavaScript%27%20type=%27text/javascript%27%3E%20%3C%21--%20var%20prefix%20=%20%27ma%27%20+%20%27il%27%20+%20%27to%27;%20var%20path%20=%20%27hr%27%20+%20%27ef%27%20+%20%27=%27;%20var%20addy86010%20=%20%27info%27%20+%20%27@%27;%20addy86010%20=%20addy86010%20+%20%27edu-factory%27%20+%20%27.%27%20+%20%27org%27;%20document.write%28%20%27%3Ca%20%27%20+%20path%20+%20%27%5C%27%27%20+%20prefix%20+%20%27:%27%20+%20addy86010%20+%20%27%5C%27%3E%27%20%29;%20document.write%28%20addy86010%20%29;%20document.write%28%20%27%3C%5C/a%3E%27%20%29;%20//--%3E%5Cn%20%3C/script%3E%20%3Cscript%20language=%27JavaScript%27%20type=%27text/javascript%27%3E%20%3C%21--%20document.write%28%20%27%3Cspan%20style=%5C%27display:%20none;%5C%27%3E%27%20%29;%20//--%3E%20%3C/script%3EThis%20e-mail%20address%20is%20being%20protected%20from%20spambots.%20You%20need%20JavaScript%20enabled%20to%20view%20it%20%3Cscript%20language=%27JavaScript%27%20type=%27text/javascript%27%3E%20%3C%21--%20document.write%28%20%27%3C/%27%20%29;%20document.write%28%20%27span%3E%27%20%29;%20//--%3E%20%3C/script%3E> *info at edu-factory.org* -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The speakers of this meeting will be Andrew Ross (New York University), Morgan Adamson (University of Minnesota), Christofer Newfield (University of California - Santa Barbara), Pedro Barbosa Mendes (Uninomada- Brazil), Stefano Harney (Queen Mary University of London). Also *Dillip Kumar Dash*, student of Hyderbrad University (India) and protagonist of contemporary conflicts in the universities of South Asia, should have been taking part at this meeting as international speaker. Unfortunately, we heard from Dillip that the italian Embassy of New Delhi denied his visa, without reason, blocking the possibility of his participation in the meeting that will take place tomorrow in Rome. Global University is a field of conflict, where the mobility of researchers, professors and students must be a right and cannot be the new measure of exploitation acted at the global level. For us, Global University means to put in crisis its hierarchies and differentiations: freedom of movement, free circulation of ideas and bodies that live the university and build it every day. We denounce this dire act from italian authorities, that confirms again Italy as an inhospitable country, which practices a generalized attack on the free and open exchange of ideas and the freedom of movement. *Sapienza on the Wave * --------------------------------------------- Mercoled? 10 giugno 2009 *La crisi dell?Universit? Labour, Struggles and the Common within the Crisis?, organizzato da Lettere in Onda, edu-factory collective e Queen Mary University of London. * Sapienza in Onda * -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
