I am pleased to announce the publication of _Cinéma et guerre froide.
Histoire du festival international de Leipzig, 1955-1990_ (Paris,
Publications de la Sorbonne, 2014).
Founded in 1955, the documentary
film festival of Leizig stayed one of the mayor annual events of its
kind in Europe even after the German reunification. How is it possible
to explain this longevity? The long history of the festival, from its
start until 1990, allows us to understand the exceptional role of this
event which was both a place of official representation, controlled by
the regime of East-Berlin, and an important meeting place between East
and West, North and South. As an important moment of exchange and
transnational circulations, Leipzig thus holds a unique position at the
heart of the eventful relations between cinema and the Cold War.
