[Filmfestivalresearch] Invitation to Conference Fascinations

Dear friends of experimental film,


We are pleased to invite you to the *Conference Fascinations*, which will
take place during the *19th edition of the Jihlava International
Documentary Film Festival*, the biggest event of its kind in Central and
Eastern Europe, held from *October 27 to November 1*, 2015 in the Czech
Republic.



*Conference Fascinations* is an important news introduced this year as an
international *conference meeting of experimental documentary film
distributors. *The main items on the agenda will include experimental film
distribution, archiving and various strategies of making experimental works
available to curators and general public.


Experimental filmmaking is often seen as the Cinderella of cinematography,
being mostly overlooked by the traditional distribution models.
Experimental films seldom reach cinemas and the TV screen – yet, there are
countries where the quality of presentation of these films, these films are
widely shown, well received by the audience and reflected in critical
reviews (France, Netherlands, Austria, Canada, USA, Japan). These countries
often dispose of distribution models that can serve as a source of
inspiration for other countries. Experimental filmmaking can be seen as a
laboratory of techniques and methods where they are first tested to
subsequently find their way into mainstream cinematography.

Czech Republic boasts of a rich experimental scene, whose quality is on par
with many other countries. Jihlava IDFF has become the first platform
enabling a systematic presentation of Czech experimental films (notably
works referring to reality and including documentary features) and its
ambition is to promote Czech films internationally and to* facilitate
collaboration with experienced distributors and festivals abroad.*


This personal invitation includes a *festival accreditation* for the entire
festival. The festival accreditation enables access to all festival
screenings and selected events of the Industry Programme.
