I wanna share with this amazing community the news that tomorrow we are
kicking off with the new pandemic season of our lecture series Digital
Delights and Disturbances (DDD)
First talk is about the 'fourth D': De-Platformisation
details are attached below

>From a US President being banned from social media to the blocking of his
supporters on AirBnB as well as the disappearance of the Parler app from
the network; from the explosion of the lockdown revenues of Amazon to
Google’s bio-surveillance of contagion; from the Uber/Lime
bike/scooter-sharing colonisation of public grounds to the endless meetings
on Zoom: the Covid outbreak is intensifying the platformisation of
existence. Leading many spheres of contemporary life, data-intensive
infrastructures have become the gatekeepers of social order, the boosters
of economic production, the hosts, managers, and saviours of old and new
labour practices. This panel aims at investigating the escalation of
digital platforms, as well as the possibilities to detach from, reform, and
challenge this ruling paradigm of our pandemic times.



*Speakers:*

*Niels van Doorn* (expert of digital platforms, professor at the University
of Amsterdam and a researcher for the Platform *Labor Research Project* a
project finalized to analyze how the newest platforms, such as *Deliveroo*
and *Uber* influence the daily life of users),

*Sarah Gainsforth* (freelance journalist and researcher who also
collaborated with *L’Espresso*),

*Simone Robutti* (Tech Workers Coalition Italia, an international group of
tech industry workers, that focuses on organizing the labor of the tech
industry)



*De-Platformisation* is part of the *Digital Delights and Disturbances
Lecture Series* (pandemic edition) presented by the JCU *Communications
Department* and will be virtually held on Zoom.
